ASA Rankings
Rules & Criteria
This page attempts to explain how the ASA Rankings work.

Tournaments are considered either an ASA Major or an ASA Minor

ASA Majors: As a rule there are only three tournaments that can be considered an ASA Major: ASA National Championship tournament, ASA FISTF Grand Prix, and the Eastern/Western States Open.  Players can participate in any or all of the ASA Majors, but only the points from one ASA Major can count towards that player's ASA Rankings.

ASA Minors: There is no limit to the number of ASA Minor tournaments that can take place.  Players can participate in as many ASA Minor tournaments they want.  However, only the points from three ASA Minors can count towards a player's ASA Rankings.

Some quick notes about organizing tournaments: ANYONE may host or organize an ASA Minor.  All we ask is that reasonable advance notice is provided, if possible, in case anyone from out of town may be able to attend.  An ASA tournament only needs to consist of two players.  There is no maximum number of players allowed and all skill levels are welcome at ASA events.  Tournamant formats for ASA Minors are up to the organizer(s).  Also, anyone interested in hosting an ASA Major merely needs to contact Andrew Giffen or one of the other ASA officers.  It is usually first come first serve for these events, so by all means, please step forward and offer to host an ASA Major or Minor today!!!  So remember: a) it only takes two players to get a tournament off the ground b) anybody can host a tournament c) contact one of the ASA officers so that your tournament can be announced to the rest of the members.

Points Structure:
Points will be awarded based on the number of participants.  So, the more people you have participate the more rankings points you will earn.  In the case of ASA Majors, the point system to the right listed for the ASA Minors will be used, except that 4 points will be added to participants' final points as long as the scale does not exceed the scale listed below for the ASA National Championship.  The ASA National Championship always takes on the scale listed below.  The points scale will simply max out as listed here:

ASA Majors*:

And the crowd goes wild...

Many people enjoy constructing their own Subbuteo stadiums, painting players, fans, etc...  As much as it is fun to play, Subbuteo also is enjoyable for collectors.
